The Lineage of Paramasiva

Paramasiva gave initiation to Tiru Nandi Thevar in Kailaasa (Abode of Paramasiva). Also known as Nandi, Tiru Nandi Thevar serves as the vehicle to Paramaśiva and is also worshipped as a deity and is the foremost of the 18 Siddhas (esteemed Sages who manifested spiritual powers). He is also the Guardian deity of the abode of Paramaśiva which is Kailaasa. Sanatkumara is a student of Nandi Thevar who received the initiation from him. From Sanatkumara, Sathiya Jnana Darisanikal received it and gave it to his student Paranjothi Munivar. The latter descended down to earth and gave it to Meikanda Thevar. Meikanda Devar’s student Sitrambala Nadigal who was blessed with the enlightenment experience by the grace of his Guru, received this initiation from him and gave it to Jnana Prakasar.

This monastery – Thondaimandala aadheenam – of the Kailaasa Paramparāgatha Adi Shaiva Sarvajñapiṭha Thondaimandala Sāmrajyam (Kingdom) is called Tirukkailaya Paramparai Thondai Mandala Aadheenam because it was established by Jnana Prakasar in the direct lineage of Paramasiva of Kailaasa (called Kailayam in Tamil).

Lineage of Guru Maha Sannidhanams

The Guru Maha Sannidhanams (Pontiffs) took care of the spiritual heritage and the legacy of Paramaśiva in the land of Thondaimandalam, the community and the hearts of each individual.

When Devi playfully covered the two eyes of Paramaśiva, He opened His third eye and radiated His grace upon humanity once again. Thus, the descendants of Paramaśiva in this lineage carry the name “Jñāna Prakasha Deshika Paramacharya”. “Prakasha” literally meaning light, and “jñāna” being the highest intelligence of Paramaśiva. The name is a reminder of Paramaśiva’s ultimate compassion to enlighten humanity by bringing it out of darkness at that time millennia ago. Through this very lineage of Gurus, Paramaśiva initiates the people again and again with “jñāna.”

Over multiple millennia, 232 Guru Maha Sannidhanams consecutively governed and guided the people based on teachings of Adi Shaivism.

As the end of the last millennium was approaching, the Pontiffs became increasingly aware that the strength of Hindumesia forces was increasing. This was a sign that the survival of this community and the philosophy of Adi Shaivism into the next millennium was in grave danger. Guru Maha Sannidhanams became target of incessant attacks by Hindumesia forces.
